Harwey, tra l'altro, collaborò all'istituzione dell'Intercontinental College of Behavioral Optometry.

Partecipò a tutti i congressi S.O.E. nonostante lavorasse e vivesse a Philadelphia.

There were thirty-eight of us, of whom five italians, to found the European Society of Optometry (SOE). It was a real challenge as we talked in different languages and we were somewhat dilettante, but we all worked towards a common and well defined end.

Our first main approach was to search for experience and intellectual assistance by american associations and universities as, at that time in the United States, the profession was already well settled, and its education was delivered on an academic level.

Our american colleagues immediately came up to our expectations, even enthusiastically. In just a few months the SOE had been known, and counted innumerable friends all over the US.

Among several token of friendship we received a few lines from Harvey Rosenwasser, OD, - at that time we didn't know how valuable he would be for us - with some suggestions that, as soon as we applied them, it became evident to us that they were essential.

Thanks to Harvey who formed and organized a group of American Colleagues of European Optometric Society (ACEOS) hundreds of fellows from english speaking countries got interested in SOE, and joined our Association which became more and more well known and held in high esteem on an intercontinental level.

Harvey also played a great part in setting up the concept of International Congress of Behavioral Optometry(ICBO) that brought together SOE, OEP and Australian College.

Although Harvey was living and practising in Philadelphia he attended all the congresses of SOE, and he has been the most active fellow-worker to the SOE Presidents: he gave his time and shared his professional experience without stinting (he came al lot to Europe either to lecture or to attend meetings) and, on several occasions, when the situation was calling for tactful handling, he - always deliberately - used to properly break in.

Harvey managed well in french, italian, german and spanish, reminding thus that SOE - contrary to some current so-called international associations - used to work in seven languages to be useful to its members who, according to the by-laws, had the right to express themselves or to be informed in their own languages.

Harvey was acquainted, with inside knowledge, with all the national and international professional politics, and he used to inform us accordingly. We thus knew - we know - all about a fair amount of situations and facts, some of which at the very least strange.

Harvey became one of the four SOE Vice-Presidents (one by language), and it is with him that we closed a very long period of tight, interesting and constructive co-operation, either on a professional level and in the fellowship life.

Finally, on a personal level we must remember that Harvey was a real Man - one of those few who deserve a "M" capital letter - a "Righteous", a clever man, who has been highly esteemed by all but also beloved by his friends. A Talleyrand of Optometry.
